Whole Life Diet?

So, what do I mean by a “Whole Life Diet”?

I’ve tried at a number of diets in the past.  It used to be very easy for me to lose weight, but eventually I’d gain it back.  Now, even the thought of going on a diet makes my head spin and the next thing I know, I come to my senses with a half pint of ice cream in one hand and a bag of chips in the other -  don’t worry, they’re the healthy organic chips!

As a counsellor by day, I’ve analysed and reflected and pondered and explored this problem.  How can a person in the business of personal transformation consistently hit a wall when I want to change something so important about myself?

What I’ve decided is that I need to address the weight issue from a holistic, whole life perspective.  I need to stop looking at my problem as if my body’s a machine independent of my mind, emotions, spirit and, well, my life.

So over the next,... well,... however long it takes, I plan to explore this angle and try to tweak and alter my approach to my body and diet in a way that will, finally, hopefully, creating lasting change.

  1. It is not always easy to get the body and the mind at the same start line let alone the finish line. I am too on a journey and will back to check how you are doing.

A friend and I had joined Weight Watchers and we did okay but we ran into a slight problem. Neither of us were big fans of the group leader. So we still want to continue on our path of better health so today we came up with an idea.

Tomorrow we are both going to start journal. We will record what we eat along with how we felt during the day, good or bad. We will follow up with something inspirational. We may also include tips or recipes. Then next week we are going to exchange journals for the week and keep track again and so on and so on.

I wish you luck and look forward to reading how you're doing :)

  2. Thanks for the support Dayna. I was successful at Weight Watchers a few years ago and found that it helped me to plan meals and lose weight. Unfortunately I found the group discussions got tedious and repetitive, focusing mainly on food. I found that something was missing for me, a sense of living and enjoying life. That's what I want to begin to create here a diet that is disciplined but also fun and encourages me to get on with the rest of my life.

  3. I'm looking forward to following your journey. I once heard a nutritional counselor say that if we only ate when we were hungry, we wouldn't be overweight, so I really like the idea of looking at it from a holistic perspective.
